Professor of English. Jonathan Bishop was born in Paris in 1927, the son of the noted American poet, John Peale Bishop. He completed his undergraduate and graduate studies at Harvard, receiving a Ph.D. in English in 1956. After teaching at Amherst College and UCLA, he came to Cornell in 1961. His books included "Emerson on the Soul (1964), "Something Else" (1972), "Who is Who" (1975), and "Covenant: A Reading" (1983).
